Celebrating the life of

Waydette Marie (Monteith) Poitras

October 18, 1943 - March 14, 2024

Waydette Marie (Monteith) Poitras

With unimaginable sadness, we announce the death of Waydette Marie (Monteith) Poitras, 75, on March 14, 2024. Our loving mother, devoted wife, and ridiculously generous grandmother left this earth suddenly and with a bit of drama. Her death was unexpected and we are all so very sad.

Waydette was born in Caribou, Maine on October 18th, 1948, and was the middle sibling of 5 children. I am telling you she was the middle child because that somehow made her think she was the underdog of the

family, and therefore thought the middle kids were the best or at the very least that she had to defend them.

She and her siblings grew up in a sweet house, across the street from the town's Catholic Church, next to the convent, and in front of the Catholic Elementary School. She was surrounded. I think that my grandmother knew just what she was doing, because she needed help with those kids, who from the stories they told us, were a handful. Her parents are William and Elizabeth Monteith, and her two brothers are, Nelson and Jeffery. They all were waiting for her when she arrived on Thursday.

A little bit about her adult life. She met her husband, Robert W. Poitras (Bob) in Bangor, while she was attending Husson College and he was at the University of Maine. She reluctantly went on a date with him, and she couldn’t have made a better decision. They got to spend almost 56 wonderful years together. Her husband (our dad) spoiled her and she took the most wonderful care of him. They were a team and best friends. A happier and more loving marriage doesn’t exist.

They moved to Virgina after graduation and then moved again to Sanford, ME. That is where they had their two children and raised their family. She was the absolute best mother in the world. Her children were loved the way children should be loved. She raised her kids so that they knew their worth, knew how to treat and love others, all because she modeled the behavior every day of her life.

Waydette and Bob moved around a little in their older years, finally settling in Savannah, Ga for part of the year and Acton, ME. The rest. She loved her life and could not have wanted for more. We, on the other hand, could have used a little more time with her.

This beautiful, stylish, GENEROUS and feisty woman that was my mother, left behind her husband Bob, her son Andrew Poitras (Libby) of Beverly MA, her daughter Kristin Poitras (Richard Kendall) of Savannah, GA, her grandchildren MacKearney, Henry, and Lillian Kendall of Savannah, GA, Alexander and Bo Poitras of Beverly, MA, her two sisters, Roberta Pagano of Bristol, RI and Loyce Warner of Huston, TX as well as nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and countless friends and family who adored her and who she adored with all her heart.

Many, many, many tears will be shed because she will be missed more that can be described in words. We were better for having her in our lives and the void she leaves will not be filled, until we are together again.

If there ever comes a day when we can’t be together, keep me in your heart, I’ll stay there forever.

- Ernie & Susan Cote, Shapleigh, Maine

Waydette was a wonderful friend to enjoy an afternoon of lunch and chat, getting her former neighbors of Sanford together once again. With her humor and sharp remarks we would enjoy and laugh together, remembering the past, commenting on the present, anticipating the future. We will sadly miss her. Waydette will remain in our hearts and memory with much love.
